Twitter Develops Birdwatch Project To Eradicate Misinformation

As per the reports, Twitter is looking to capitalize on this shift by expanding its fact-checking program Birdwatch, which was earlier introduced to the public as a testing program. Similar to how social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are used to share and spread information, the goal of Birdwatch is to use the platform to flag and raise awareness about false information shared on the web.
Twitter has been using its internal data as well as data from other publicly available sources to determine which tweets should be fact-checked.
Twitter, along with other major social media companies, has been focusing on how to best control misinformation on its platform. In the past, false information has often spread unchecked on Twitter, sometimes heating up issues that cause trouble. This often happened despite the company’s efforts to crack down on the spread of misinformation, through the enforcement of rules around the content that can be posted and the suspension of accounts that are found to be in violation of those rules.
However, over the past year, Twitter has made a number of changes to its content policies in an attempt to slow down the spread of misinformation. It will be tested on some selected set of users and they will be able to target tweets that are misleading. The Birdwatch fact-checking program will help in eradicating misleading tweets.
